A WORD FROM THE DEPUTY DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND RESEARCH
For nearly 15 years, Montpellier Business School has progressively developed a research policy whose ambition has been affirmed and whose results have seen a strong increase over the past few years, thanks to the progress of teacher-researchers already present in the school, as well as the immediate contribution of many new recruits from the best academic and professional institutions who all have a strong international dimension and are recognized in their different field of research and motivated by the prospect of contributing to the MBS Mission.
MBS faculty members impact the creation of knowledge through various means (academic publications, books, case studies, papers in professional journals, etc…), popularise and disseminate their research findings through various channels (peer-reviewed journals, mentions in the print and audiovisual media, etc…)
MBS permanent faculty thus publishes each year more than a hundred papers in peer-reviewed journals referenced in the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and FNEGE (Fondation Nationale pour l’Enseignement de la Gestion des Entreprises) lists. More than 40% of this production is published in top journals referenced by these lists (ranks 1 and 2),
This research covers all themes of management science (finance, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, human resources, etc.) and fits in with our school’s values (ethics, openness & diversity, global performance & responsibility) in a voluntarist way. Thus an important part of the academic production is devoted to approaches combining MBS values and corporate concerns. The faculty members are recognised in fundamental themes related to these research issues (CSR, Diversity, Social Entrepreneurship, Microfinance, Energy and Sustainable Development, etc…).
MBS permanent faculty members’ action is rooted in a framework of structuring strategic alliances. Based on its historical relationship on the Montpellier site with the various higher education stakeholders, MBS became at the end of 2017 a member of the COMUE LR – Universités (Communauté d’Universités et Etablissements Languedoc-Roussillon), in recognition of the quality of our actions and missions in higher education and research. MBS is very attached to its relationship with the University, being one of the founding institutions with the University of Montpellier of the Montpellier Research in Management Laboratory, one of the most important in France and Europe in management science. MBS, together with SupAgro and the University of Montpellier, is one of the umbrella organisations of the Labex Entreprendre, the only “Laboratory of Excellence” dedicated to entrepreneurship which is selected in France as a part of the call for Future Investment projects. Finally, academic collaboration in research and teaching is deployed through MBS’s network of international academic partners, namely more than 150 international universities, more than half of which has been accredited by AACSB, EFMD-EQUIS, EFMD-EPAS or AMBA.
The vision of the Montpellier Business School’s faculty is to contribute to bringing research issues, which can be abstract and distant from the real world, closer to the reality of business practices and challenges in the broad sense (not only in the private sector), and to engage fruitful dialogues with all its stakeholders, managers, shareholders and employees. Many teachers-researchers have consulting activities with companies and rely on rich professional experiences.
This concern for the search for meaning in action founds an integration strategy between Research, Teaching and the Business world that benefits our students and our business partners.
To offer an effective and stimulating animation, MBS supports the use of diverse and innovative teaching methods, notably based on the approach known as the flipped classroom and experiential learning (blended learning, design thinking, Legos approaches or serious games to name but a few).

Dr David ROUBAUD,
Deputy Dean for Academic affairs and Research
Dr David Roubaud who joined Montpellier Business School in 2011 as a teacher-researcher was Academic Director of MBS from 2013 to 2017. He has been Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Research of MBS since the beginning of 2017.
Dr David Roubaud is a graduate of HEC Paris (Master in Management) and Sciences Po Paris (Double Master in Economics and Public Law). He also has a PhD in Economics and Finance (University of Aix-Marseille). He has extensive international professional experience as a strategy consultant in Russia and as an Associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions departments of Merrill Lynch and Rothschild banks in New York, London and Paris.
His academic research, published in over 30 research articles, focuses on decision theory in uncertain environments, the representation of ambiguity in financial and economic models and the axiomatisation of stochastic processes. The initial scope of this work is the real options theory in corporate finance. More recently, he has written several papers on Bitcoins and has addressed the themes of energy and sustainable development, green logistics, circular economy and industry 4.0.
As Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, he relies in his action on the strength and diversity of the MBS faculty, the Committees and Commissions for continuous improvement as well as the constantly renewed commitment of the administrative teams in charge of accreditation, teaching and education, on the transversal administrative centre and on the various Centres of innovation and teaching excellence and the e-learning lab.
